Rome
The Pantheon was much larger than we had imagined.
It was hard to believe the Pantheon was as old as it is. The construction of the dome almost looks modern.
Everyone says it, but walking through Rome is like walking through history. The Forum is right in the middle of the city.
It’s crazy how big the forum is. If/when we ever go back, a guided tour would be a must.
Crossing the Tiber river on our way into old town.
A lot of businesses were closed for the holiday in old town, but it was still cool to walk around.
We watched a couple of shows where they visited Osteria da Fortunata and decided to eat here. It was some really amazing hand-made pasta. This is the carbonara.
This is the dish everyone tried in the show. It’s a simple pasta dish with cheese and pepper (Tagliolini Cacio e Pepe), but it’s really flavorful and delicious.
St Peter’s square in the Vatican.
We took a tour of the Vatican Museum and St. Peters, and the Sistine chapel. It’s really hard to capture everything in photos.
Inside St. Peter’s
The dome at St. Peter’s
We decided to go to the top of the dome for the view. This is just before the stairs to get to the top.
The view from the top was definitely worth the 300+ steps to get there
A closer view of St. Peter’s Square
Lisa at the top of the dome.
Back down at St. Peter’s Square.
Lisa spotted this random gigantic salami
Inside the Colosseum.
Outside the Colosseum. It’s really amazing how huge it is.
Heading into the Forum
It’s crazy how big the forum is. If/when we ever go back, a guided tour would be a must.
The Temple of Caesar – where Julius Caesar was cremated.
It’s crazy how ruins are just discarded and laying everywhere. Anywhere else and these would be in a museum. Here, they’re piled up in corners.
More random ruins laying around, seemingly discarded.
Lisa planned a special surprise dinner. This was the view of Rome on our way to the restaurant.
The restaurant was amazing. We had a delicous 7 course meal with amazing views of the city.
Leaving the restaurant.
We got to see the Spanish steps on our way back from the restaurant
The Trevi fountain was absolutely mobbed during the day. It was still pretty busy at night (this is close to midnight), but not as bad.
Seeing the Trevi Fountain at night was a great end to our time in Rome.
